Lesson Plan
Final Reflection
What did you learn from designing the CALL lessons?
I learned and practiced how to use four digital tools for lesson planning. The first is chatGPT, used This spring, just as I was not sure what classes I could take as a free elective, I stumbled upon Dr. Sherry's lesson. I love teaching, and although I am currently working with a math tutor, I feel that my journey to learning English is more convincing than teaching math. In semester 112-2, I took the online teaching course of the Department of ACE, so I wanted to use this semester to apply the experience I had learned to design a good course.
At first, I didn't expect that designing a course for junior high school students would be so complicated and difficult, but in the process of constantly revising the direction of the lesson plan and adjusting the use of tools, I experienced obstacles again and again, and I realized that teaching is really not easy, not to mention that the target is a group of students with low English ability. During this time, I tried many online tools that I had never used before, such as Wordwall and PaGamO, and I never thought that I would actually design a worksheet for junior high school students to practice English.
I think I may be too shy. I did many things according to the rules, but I don't dare to be too different from my previous experience, so this was also a pity for me during the design and practicum stage. There are many things that I want to achieve in 6 weeks, which are just 1 hour a week, and I don't dare to be too innovative, so now I think the course I designed is a little boring, and this is what I think is quite a pity.
I have always believed that the process of learning English is only starting from you are willing to speak, then you will improve the ability in listening, reading, and writing. However, according to my observation in MSJH, the most reluctant thing for the students to do is speaking. Maybe they are not good at speaking, or they would not like to speak, but I think the most important task I have for these weeks of practicum is to get them to speak. Therefore, not only using the electronic scoreboard, but I also incorporate online mini games (such as Blooket) in the classroom, so that students can integrate the knowledge in the classroom I taught and help them learn.
During the preparation period, I actually had a lot of ideas, but I just didn't know how to integrate into the class of junior high school students. Therefore, when I wrote lesson plans, sometimes when I really didn't have any idea, I will use ChatGPT to assist me in producing lesson plans, but I didn't use it very often.
After six weeks of the practicum in MSJH, I think I will score my practicum in 70/100. Maybe it's because of the constant revision of the content of the lesson plan and the heavy workload of other external tasks, which sometimes makes me feel exhausted and helpless during the teaching period, but I believe that in the process of constantly adjusting the teaching method, the group of students will definitely gain something, even if it is only a little bit.
I wanna appreciate Dr. Sherry that you went out of your way to help me adjust the lesson plan to complete the 6-week practicum successfully. By the way, I am currently doing research on the psychology of remedial teaching, with the theme of Direct Instruction and Phonics, and I hope to make some results and contribute to the remedial teaching field in elementary and junior high schools in the future.
